Peace River community lends a hand to wildfire evacuees of Alberta

With wildfires wreaking havoc around Alberta, Points West Living Peace River took on a mission to host four residents of Edson and High Prairie who needed to evacuate from their communities as many others have done across the province.

“Being the daughter of one of the evacuees, I would like to say thank you so much.  It is such a relief knowing my mom is safe and being well taken care of,” said a family member of one evacuee.

The broader community of Peace River also supported efforts.  The local Manzer Environmental was called upon to lend a trailer. And the Great Canadian Dollar Store and Blue Star Thift Store donated clothing and personal care needs to the residents. Mika Mechanical purchased bedding for the guests.

When Points West Living Peace River needed more beds for guest residents, the community of Grimshaw Stone Brook said, ‘no problem’, and lent theirs.  Stone Brook also provided its own Facility Support with Care Human Services employees.

Many ECPs in the community also volunteered their time by cleaning rooms, doing laundry and ensuring the residents were comfortable.
