Kindness came knocking at Lloydminster

March 16th, 2023

Resident Gordon Maxwell with the Kindness is Power team.

In 2021, the government of Canada introduced the Kindness Week Act to occur the thrid week of every February.

It may take a few more years before the new Act is widely known, but it didn’t take long for the Students of Holy Rosary High School in Lloydminster to get onboard with Kindness Week. They started spreading some kindness of their own this February with a visit to Points West Living Lloydminster where they handed out treats to residents and care partners alike.

You may be wondering why you’ve not heard of the Kindness Week Act.  Few people have heard of this unusual piece of legislation but for many perhaps, it was long overdue.

Its intent is to support values such as ‘empathy, respect, gratitude and compassion’ and to encourage ‘a culture of kindness in Canada’ and acts of  ‘volunteerism and charitable giving to the benefit of all Canadians’.

The Rosary High School student group calls itself KIP or Kindness is Power.  Part of their mission is to make a positive difference in the world.  They definitely made a positive impact on the Lloydminster community.
