The PWL Holy Walkmolies dazzle
at Lloydminster Walk for Alzheimer's

June 28th, 2017

For the second year in a row, Points West Living Lloydminster residents, family members and care partners participated in the local Walk for Alzheimer’s. They raised donations before the event, and dressed to dazzle on the walk itself.

Holy Walkamolies! prep with fundraising

The Walk for Alzheimer’s was held the evening of June 20th on the indoor track of the Servus Sports Centre in Lloydminster. Leading up to the date, the team – named the Holy Walkamolies! – raised just over $500 with two bingo games, a lemonade and snack sale and a raffle draw.

Four generations take to the track

One of the highlights of the walk itself, says recreation coordinator Rose Baranek, was the family participation of resident Iva Haan. “Iva was there, along with her daughters Vicki and Susan, and Susan’s daughter and granddaughter and 3-week-old grandson. Four generations came out to support the Alzheimer’s society walk. Iva Hann is living with dementia, so it is a cause that hits close to home for this family.”

Best dressed

At the end of the evening the Holy Walkamolies! discovered that in addition to winning water bottles and coffee thermos for everyone on the team, they’d won the top prize for best dressed team, receiving a $100 gift card to Mr. Bills restaurant. “We plan on hosting a pizza party for our team in the near future,” says Rose. “It was a great night, and a great cause that we are happy once again to be involved in.”
