From Servery to Library, residents claim
perfect spot for poetry and parties

May 23rd, 2017

Not long ago, the room was known as the Servery, a butlers’ pantry where light food preparation could take place. But the Points West Living Peace River Resident Council thought the bright room with its covered patio and spectacular view could be put to much better use; as a library.

Even an espresso machine

Teresa MacNeill made the suggestion at a Resident Council meeting about six months after PWL Peace River opened, and within a few weeks, the bookshelf, smaller tables, comfy chairs, tea service and even an espresso machine were set up.

The most recent event at the library was a Poetry Reading. Teresa read from a book of verse, while others sat in the comfortable chairs, drank fresh tea and coffee, and nibbled on snacks and fruit while they relaxed and listened. All agreed it was a lovely time, one they intend to enjoy again soon, perhaps out on the patio as the weather warms up.

It's a wonderful spot.

The library is popular for other events too, says recreation coordinator Bernadette Harris. “Families often phone ahead to book the room and bring in food and cake for family birthday parties,” she says. “Residents also like to sit here and read, and listen to audio books or listen to music. It’s a wonderful spot!”
