St. Patrick's Day celebrates
the spirit of the Emerald Isle

March 24th, 2017

Residents living in the first floor Memory Care Cottage at Points West Living Red Deer celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with food, music and fun. Even those with no Irish heritage enjoyed the bright green theme.

Recreation Aide Lorraine organized the party with the help of cottage care partners, housekeepers, recreation therapist, and a volunteer from the independent residences.

“Lorraine, had lots of decorations up, trinkets for residents to wear, and Irish music playing in the background,” says recreation coordinator Kendra Joyes. “They worked on a craft (shamrock hats), played a St. Pat’s bingo game, decorated cookies, and drank green punch.”

“Almost everyone went home with some sort of memento from the day,” adds Kendra, “whether it was a prize, or a St. Paddy’s day necklace, or hat.”

Photo: With a Scandinavian surname, resident Lorne Ulveland’s roots may not reach all the way to Ireland, but he enjoyed the day celebrating the spirit of the Emerald Isle.
