Four legged 'volunteer' makes friends
wherever she goes

February 6th, 2017

When Ashley Muhlbach started work as office administrator at Points West Living Stettler back in December 2015, Mandy was part of the package. And that’s been a very good thing. The Shih Tzu Toy Poodle cross gets to be with her number one girl (Ashley), and gets to visit on lots of welcoming laps.

A particular favourite

Mandy is a particular favourite of several residents and care partners. HCA Charlene has been known to scoop her up and bring her to one of the cottages. “When Mandy is up on the cottage,” says Charlene, “She is more interested in being snuggled than in finding Ashley, because people are there who want to give her attention.”

A welcome distraction

“Any room I’m in,” adds Ashley, “Mandy sits outside and watches, guarding the door. I have to laugh because everyone who comes in to talk with me takes a moment to pet her first, then they leave, and have to keep coming back.”

Just her presence helps deliver Eden

As Ashley says, “Mandy’s perpetual puppy look and her calm demeanor are a perfect fit at PWL Stettler. Just her presence helps deliver Eden here, by alleviating boredom, loneliness and helplessness among residents.”

Photo: Mandy sits with PWL Stettler resident John Annas. This picture was taken just after their television program finished. Earlier, John had read sections of the newspaper to Mandy, who, according to Ashley, “sat comfortably on his lap and listened.”
