Sowing Joy in the Community

August 19th, 2016

Points West Living Stettler is having an impact on the community of Stettler, one small act of kindness at a time. Over the summer two sweet gestures were recognized for the joy they generated. Recreation coordinator Jenn Dixon shares the stories.

A big bunch of birthday balloons

A birthday is a big event for most little kids, and Max Ginther’s fifth birthday this summer was no exception. When his great-grandma Donna Lee joined in PWL Stettler’s 3rd anniversary celebration in July, she noticed the bundles of helium-filled balloons set out as decorations. Donna Lee’s husband Max Ginther – that’s right, little Max’s namesake – is a resident at PWL Stettler, and as the party was wrapping up, she mentioned to Jenn that little Max would love a bundle of balloons. So Jenn scooped them up and helped Donna Lea put them in her SUV.

“A couple of days later,” says Jenn, “I received this wonderful, fill-my-heart-with-joy card. It had a picture of little Max holding the balloons. He was speechless!”

#relationshipgoals

Jenn was delighted to see a photo on her sister-in-law Chelli’s Facebook page featuring Jim and Myra Greig, two treasured residents from PWL Stettler. “They had gone out for ice cream, and Chelli took a picture of them riding on the scooter, enjoying their cones. She didn’t know that I knew them. All she knew was that riding around on a scooter was the most romantic thing she’d seen!” The facebook post read: “Giving his gal a lift to the ice cream shop – this guy is my hero. #relationshipgoals.”

#relationshipgoals is what’s known as a ‘hashtag’ – where people add the # sign to label photos they post on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and more). The # identifies the theme of the post; in this case, a lovely community recognition of Jim and Myra.
