Focus on Internal Values

April 13th, 2016

Points West Living General Managers and Educators met in Edmonton April 6-7 for their annual ‘Untie the Spirit’ event. It was a chance to refocus on their goals, learn along with their peers, and have some creative teambuilding fun.

Focus on quality of life

“Our goal was to bring the focus of our culture to the forefront, as a conscious effort to improve the quality of life for those we are here to support,” says Stephanie Miller, Director of Wellness and Cultural Development. “Our team brings energy, working group updates, education of the Mission, Vision and Values, team building, tools to support a busy calendar, HR tools, and Dementia Program updates to the conference.”

“Care partners are encouraged to bring most of what they learn at Untie the Spirit back to their communities for everyone’s benefit,” Stephanie adds.

Journey from Within

This year’s theme was ‘Journey from Within’. Participants explored how your focus creates your reality; how your thinking impacts your actions, and how this is true for everyone involved in care partnership at Points West Living. From the resident to the volunteer to the chef to the CEO, everyone is guided by what they value; from within.

Creative Fun

The two working days of meetings were broken up by a fun and creative teambuilding evening Wednesday. Everyone went to a local restaurant, where in a private meeting room, they enjoyed great food and beverages and painted pictures.

“‘PaintNite’ is indeed a very unique teambuilding activity,” says Corporate Educator, Marlon Cruz, “Everyone had so much fun as we learn how to paint the same picture, chosen to make sure it is linked to our theme. At the end, we brought our paintings home feeling proud.”
