Community Santas deliver gifts galore

December 23rd, 2020

Shh! Don’t say anything yet, but every resident at Points West Living Cochrane will receive a gift this Christmas, thanks to the generosity of community donors and volunteers. That thoughtfulness is particularly welcome this year.

Every resident to receive a gift

Recreation Therapist, Jessica Craig found out about an Alberta organization called ‘Santa for Seniors’, that works with communities to secure volunteers to provide Christmas gifts. “After reaching out to the organizer,” says Jessica, “I knew I wanted to make sure each of PWL Cochrane’s residents received a gift for Christmas, during what has been a trying time for many.”

Outpouring of love and support

So Jessica got busy with advertising, connecting and organizing, and the floodgates opened! “We received a gift for every single resident!” says Jessica. “I was overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and support from the community, with several volunteers bringing in multiple gifts.”

“On Christmas morning, the recreation team will be putting the gifts under the Christmas tree in each cottage living room. We hope it will bring some joy to the residents,” Jessica says. “With residents unable to leave to go see their families this year, we are hoping this will make Christmas a little bit brighter.”

Amazing Cochrane community

Jessica says she is hoping to work with ‘Santa for Seniors’ again next year, and get started a little earlier to cultivate sponsors. “It’s been amazing to see the Cochrane community step up and make a real difference!”
