Resident pup is a ‘very good boy’
for PWL Red Deer

August 27th, 2019

Meet Allen, the two-year-old Border Collie/Blue Heeler cross who has made Points West Living Red Deer his home away from home since he was a tiny pup. He comes in most days with Alyssa Seifried, the community’s recreation coordinator, but he spends his days lapping up affection from residents.

Quiet gentle guy

“On an average day, Allen is greeted by residents, employee care partners and visitors before they say hello to anyone else,” says Alyssa. “He is a very quiet, gentle guy who will sit beside anyone to receive a few pets, always accepting of treats.”

Many special relationships

“He strolls through the hallways, usually following me, or riding the elevator alone when I'm not looking,” Alyssa adds. “I can usually find him cleaning up lunch crumbs under the table or cuddled up on the couch in one of the cottages. Allen has built many special relationships with our residents.”

When Alyssa leaves Allen at the farm on one of her work days, some of his PWL Red Deer friends joke that they “didn’t approve his days off!”

Contributes to Eden environment

“I feel so blessed to be able to share Allen with our community,” says Alyssa, adding that his calm and loving presence helps combat loneliness, boredom, and helplessness among residents, while contributing to the Eden environment at PWL Red Deer.
