PeeWee hockey team brings competition and
fun to the table at PWL Stettler

March 5th, 2019

Stettler’s PeeWee-A hockey team, the Stettler Storm paid a visit to Points West Living Stettler recently to engage in an evening of table games with residents. The visitors included 18 team players (boys aged 11-12) and five adult volunteers. The lively event warmed spirits on an icy cold evening.

The team came back

“The team had come here in December to help serve Christmas suppers,” says Recreation Therapist, Lisa Smith, “and because they enjoyed their time here so much, they asked if they could come again. As a result, games night was planned.”

Sixteen residents joined the team and volunteers in the main dining room, and broke into groups to play a variety of games. On the table were Snakes ‘n Ladders, Jenga, Cribbage, Sorry, Yahtzee, and more.

Homemade cribbage board

“Resident Dorothy Fix reconnected with her Grade 1 teaching skills,” says Lisa, “and was observed guiding the kids during their game and keeping them on track.” One player brought a cribbage board that his dad had made, and residents Dustin Potter and Bill Kroker joined in a game.

Residents thrilled

HCA/Recreation Aide Elaine Partsch reports, “Residents thoroughly enjoyed the games night and were thrilled that these kids would give up some of their time to come and play games with them. They just had so much fun!”
