Photo contest third-place winner captures
a happy morning moment

October 23rd, 2018

John Hallam loves his scooter and he loves Points West Living Stettler’s resident birds, particularly Rico the cockatiel. Health Care Aide Denise Johnston (photo inset above) captured this photo of the two together and entered it in the 2018 PWL Photo Contest. Online voting awarded her photo third place.

Every morning John takes Rico for a spin

According to General Manager Carol Dyck, “Every morning, John Hallam goes to Rico’s cage, opens it up and takes the cockatiel out for a spin around the cottage.” He cares for the other resident birds and feeds the wild ones outside as well.

“Before moving to PWL Stettler about two years ago, John lived in Donalda (in the Stettler area) all his life,” says Carol. “His daughter works in town and visits with him every day. He’s a nice fellow with a great sense of humour. He loves his scooter,” she adds. “We’re about a block away from the local Walmart so John scoots down there a lot.”

John is a big Habs fan

As you can probably guess from his choice of attire, John is a big Montreal Canadiens fan. He has the Habs logo on his front door and watches every game they play.

A two-time photo winner

Denise Johnston clearly recognizes a winning photo opportunity when she sees one. Denise took first prize in the inaugural Points West Living photo contest back in the spring of 2015. This year, she takes home the third place prize of a PWL tote bag.
