Teamwork results in Photo Contest win

September 28th, 2018

The vote is in, and the first prize in the 2018 Points West Living Photo Contest goes to Chinnu Mathai (left in photo insert) and Linda Shaji (right). The two recently snapped this whimsical photo of PWL Stettler resident Laureen Schmidt as she curled her hair.

Teamed up for the best shot

Linda (Health Care Aide) and Chinnu (HCA/LPN) often share service time and tasks at PWL Stettler and they teamed up to get the best shot. “Chinnu took the photo on my phone,” says Linda. “She has a little more height than me so it was good for her to take the picture.”

Laureen was a great sport about the photo. “We told her we’re going to take a picture, so she posed like that for us,” says Linda. “We didn’t think about winning.”

Laureen is friendly and helpful

Laureen moved into PWL Stettler during the summer, and has settled in happily. “She is very friendly and helpful,” says Linda. “She helps with laundry, clearing dishes, tidying and making things clean.”

Always looks great

General Manager Carol Dyck adds the Laureen is originally from Camrose, and although her first choice for supportive living was in that community, she is very happy at PWL Stettler. “Apparently Laureen is a big time curler (of rocks on ice, not hair!), and she takes part in all of the music and dancing programs we offer,” says Carol. “Laureen is always very well turned out. She always looks great, so it’s a bit ironic that this photo has caught her in a ‘before’ state. We’ll have to share an ‘after’ photo soon.”

Linda and Chinnu plan to share the first prize package; a High Sierra® Grizzly Outdoor NFC Bluetooth Wireless Speaker (valued at $100), plus a $25 Walmart gift card, and a Points West Living tote bag.

Second and third prize stories to come

Second prize goes to Shauna Lee Carlson, recreation coordinator at PWL Wainwright. Third prize goes to Denise Johnston HCA at PWL Stettler. We’ll share their photos and stories in upcoming articles.
