First residents enjoy lots of attention
and a range of activities at Lac La Biche

July 20th, 2018

Residents are settling in to their new home, and employee care partners are settling in to their new roles at the newly opened Points West Living Lac La Biche. As the community gradually grows – to date, only 11 of the 49 anticipated residents have moved in – there’s time for everyone to adjust, build friendships, and explore meaningful activities.

A batch of tea biscuits

One resident wanted to do some baking, so Brent Hughes (Food Services Supervisor) gathered interested residents and care partners to bake up a batch of tea biscuits. When the biscuits came out of the oven, everyone got to enjoy the resulting scones with toppings and a cup of tea.

Canada Day and Bingo!

Canada Day was a hit as well. Everyone dressed in their reds and whites and enjoyed some group activities, like ‘balloon hockey’ and ‘horse racing’.

Bingo is already a favourite weekly activity with residents, especially for Vernie Mosich, who recently won two out of the six games played.

Learning along with residents

Iona Wolstenholme is the recreation coordinator for PWL Lac La Biche. She says she’s learning along with the residents what activities they like to take part in. “Fewer residents mean fewer participants,” she says, “but fewer residents also means it’s easier to get to know them; you’re able to bond more quickly, and on a deeper level.”
